President, BUFT Debate Club

From member to president

I joined BUFT Debate Club as an Associate Member in 2022 and later served as President for the 2024 to 2025 session. Between those roles, I contributed as a Sub Executive Member and Organizing Secretary.

Activities and responsibilities

My involvement included organising seminars, debate competitions and training sessions. These activities required planning with other members, communicating responsibilities and helping participants prepare.

Being involved in a student organisation gave me a chance to contribute beyond my academic work. I learned that an event depends on many small tasks being understood and completed by the team.

What leadership taught me

I became more aware of the importance of listening, setting clear expectations and making room for different views. Debate also helped me practise examining an argument before deciding how to respond.

These are skills I continue to use in professional settings, particularly when I need to explain an idea or coordinate with people who approach a problem differently.

The wider club journey

My time with the club included participating in debate and public speaking competitions. The achievements listed in my portfolio belong to that wider journey, and several took place before my presidency.
